This committee develops and presents educational programs on invasive plants, and conducts control/eradication of invasive plant species that are threatening ecosystems in our local area.
Invasive species are any plants that are not native to the local area that have a negative effect on the health, sustainability, and aesthetics of the local ecology . These plants are often very aggressive species that grow and reproduce rapidly causing major changes to any area they invade.
Dobbs Park infested with Bush honeysuckle.
The understory of the forest is covered and the native plants and regeneration of trees are effectively inhibited.
Bush Honey suckle is removed to clear the forest floor.... ....and native trees and wildflowers are free to regenerate.
The Invasive Plants Committee meets the first Monday of every month at 5:00pm. Locations vary, check the posted agenda for the next meeting. All are welcome.
