A number of all-volunteer committees are under the oversight of the Sycamore
Trails Council. They conduct activities throughout our nine-county area.
- Abandoned Mine Lands
- This committee works with private landowners to remediate small
problems on land mined before 1977, with no mining company currently
responsible for reclaiming the site.
- Education
-
This committee sponsors projects to educate youth and adults,
mainly on natural resource topics. One of the important courses they
sponsor is the Indiana Mater Naturalist course.
- Fish & Wildlife
-
This committee educates the public on fish and wildlife habitat
management and also sponsors youth hunter education
- Forestry
-
This committee covers all aspects of forestry, from tree planting
to forest management
- Invasive Plants
- This committee is working on awareness, education, and
control/eradication of invasive plant species that are threatening
ecosystems.
- Land Trust - Ouabache
Land Conservancy
- This committee is working to educate the public on land protection,
especially through the use of conservation easements. The Council has
accepted conservation easements and also helps manage protected areas held
by other organizations
- West Central Indiana
Business Innovations
- This committee's focus is to support economic development by providing
support to entrepreneurs who show promise and are ready to enlarge their
enterprises.
- Indiana Conservation
Tillage Initiative (ICTI)
-
This is a cooperative effort between the Indiana Conservation
Partnership, Agriculture Industry, and Indiana Farmers to expand the
adoption of No-Till and other high residue farming methods. Sycamore
Trails is providing financial assistance to this group in administering
their ICTI Fund. Learn more about this initiative at
