Quail Hunt March 3, 2007 Squirrel Hunt, Sept 29, 2007
On March 3, 2007 we helped sponsor a Youth Quail Hunt hosted by the Royal Flush Shooting Preserve in western Parke County. Other sponsors included the Friends of NRA. Twenty-four kids were able to enjoy this unique experience, thanks to sponsors and volunteers. Firearm safety instruction was provided and dog handlers brought trained animals to help walk up the birds for the young hunters. A trap shoot was also held as part of the event to improve marksmanship. Hunting vests and caps were provided for the youth to keep. The youth who participated expressed appreciation by writing personal thank you notes to sponsor organizations. Read on to see what they had to say! “Thank you for letting us kids get a chance to have a great experience! I enjoyed it so much—thank you for helping us with new techniques. I have learned a lot about safety and to have fun but to be safe. I cannot thank you enough. I cannot wait until next year’s hunt!” “…Without your generous sponsorship of this event, we wouldn’t have been able to enjoy such a fun and exciting day of hunting. Thanks again!” “We had a really good time, and we appreciate the opportunities given to us.” With the remaining funds from our Friends of the NRA grant, our Fish & Wildlife Committee sponsored a Youth Squirrel Hunt on September 29, 2007. Nine kids ages 12 - 15 years participated with ten adults guides. They
hunted on private land in north western Vigo County, where all of the kids saw
squirrels and only one did not get to shoot. Most kids got to see five to ten
squirrels and some saw more. One boy got four and another got three and two and
one. |
